Bone Transfer

Bone Transfer is a surgical technique used to restore or replace missing or damaged bone using healthy bone tissue taken from another part of the patient’s body (autograft) or from a donor (allograft). It is commonly used in orthopedic, reconstructive, dental, and trauma-related surgeries.

What We Do

Our expert surgical team performs Bone Transfer procedures to rebuild bone in areas where there has been injury, tumor removal, infection, or congenital deformity. The transferred bone helps in stimulating natural bone regeneration, allowing long-term strength and support.

Common Uses of Bone Transfer

  • After traumatic bone loss due to accident or injury

  • In limb salvage surgery following bone tumor removal

  • To repair non-healing fractures (nonunion)

  • During jaw or facial reconstruction

  • For dental implants where bone is insufficient

Types of Bone Grafts

  • Autograft – Bone taken from the patient’s own body (e.g., hip, leg)

  • Allograft – Bone taken from a donor (bone bank)

  • Vascularized Bone Graft – Includes blood supply (used in complex reconstructions)

  • Synthetic Bone Substitutes – Man-made materials used when natural graft isn’t available

Benefits of Bone Transfer

  • Promotes natural bone growth and healing

  • Strengthens bone structure for long-term support

  • Allows joint or implant reconstruction

  • Reduces risk of limb amputation in critical cases

Risks and Considerations

  • Risk of infection or graft rejection (rare)

  • Donor site pain or complications (in autografts)

  • May require follow-up surgeries for optimal outcome

  • Recovery time varies depending on site and complexity

Recovery & Rehabilitation

Post-surgery, patients may need a combination of rest, bracing, physiotherapy, and regular monitoring to ensure proper bone healing and integration.
